Drainage in the Garden. The most important thing you should know about managing water and moisture drainage.
If you have drainage problems in the Garden or are building a new garden, here is what you need to know to avoid them.
Drainage in a garden is either natural grassThe use of a waterproofing system, artificial grass, decorative stones or plants is vital to avoid waterlogging and dead plants due to excess water.
When should a drain be placed in the garden?
The 3 main reasons why a drain should be placed in the garden are
-
- Linkages
-
- Water table
- Clayey soil.
Frame-ups:
Waterlogging often occurs in specific areas of the garden. It can usually be caused by concavity in that area of the garden, because the soil is collapsed or rusty. There may also be some cement or debris left underneath.
Frequency level:
On rare occasions, we have observed that gardens are kept moist without watering, even in summer. This constant humidity comes from the water table or underground water areas. There may be a passage of groundwater, the proximity of a sewerage system, a river or other water network passing underneath.
Clay soil.
Clay soil is perhaps the most common cause of poor drainage in the garden. This also causes waterlogging and a constant water table or humidity throughout the year.
What solutions and steps should be followed for the good drainage of the garden?
Before evaluating the options to solve drainage problems, we advise you to ask for a professional evaluation. This way, problems can be diagnosed and damage can be assessed.
The first thing is to check that there is a drainage system in the plot. By regulation, the housing should have the drains that are linked to the network of wastewater, rain or sewage as contemplated in each locality.
Drainage Construction
If you have this drain but have a problem with waterlogging or a high water table, the solution should be to build a drain. To do this, you will have to make trenches in the shape of a herringbone and lay special pipes. This should be covered with geotextile and the trench should be filled with gravel all around the pipe, and finally compacted well.
In the case that you do not have a drainage system and for any reason you cannot link to the sewage network, you will have to assess other options that could improve the problem.
For example, if the waterlogging is in specific areas, a hole could be dug about 40+50cm deep and filled with gravel. If the waterlogging focus has a radius of 1 meter, the hole should be at least twice as deep.
If waterlogging is widespread throughout the plot, it may be appropriate to carry out more extensive work. This means replacing the existing plant layer and building a new soil in several layers thicker than the standard. It should contain gravel, river sand, mulch and then grass.
Another option may be to place artificial turfIn our experience, this is a solution that has solved many of these problems.
If, finally, the problem of drainage in the plot is acute and the previous options have not been sufficient, other more radical measures would have to be taken. For example, dig a well with a drainage pump and connect this well with pipes to the drainage network of the house.
Other considerations.
If the waterlogging comes from waterfalls on the roof, porch etc. We advise you to build a visible drainage system. You also have the option to build a gutter but keep in mind that you will have to do a leaf and pigeon droppings cleaning maintenance at least once a year.
Take your problem to city hall. Request the construction plans and demand solutions from both the town hall and the builder if there is no drainage from the garden or terrace.

Hola! Muchas gracias!
